Peel 2.0 Sneak Peak

I’ve been working very hard on the next version of Peel for the last few days. It’s been more than a year since I started a new fresh project for Peel 2.0 and unfortunately I haven’t focused enough on getting it done. I’m really feeling good about this now and I think it’s coming along strong this time. Here is a sneak peak of the current state of the app.

Peel 2.0

If you’ve used the current version of Peel, you should be able to see a lot of improvements.

Here is a list of few of my favorite new features:

  • RSS Support
  • The ‘web’ feature has now been replaced by a RSS-view displaying the post containing the song
  • Folder structure
  • Smart lists (two showed here, ‘Today’ and ‘Unplayed’)
  • Clicking a song in the RSS-view plays the song
  • Currently playing song is highlighted in the RSS-view
  • Refreshing blogs has been sped up a lot
  • Last.FM support

Hope you like it and don’t hesitate to leave a comment if you think something is missing.

Ps. It should be noted that this is not just a Photoshop mock-up and some of the interface elements will probably change.

This makes me so happy :) I bought Peel very early on and I use it all the time to find new music. I can't wait for v2! Very happy about the Last.fm support!

Love it, cant wait.

Fantastic! Can't wait to get my hands on it! :D

*awesome* news. I've loved peel for a long time and hoped it hadn't been abandoned. The 2.0 additions look great. Any chance of last.fm pinging when songs are played in peel?

And... I just read a line lower and saw that the answer was, indeed, YES. I'm an idiot, but a happy idiot!

I was thinking about the Last.fm integration in v2 of Peel :) and I think it would be pretty snazzy if you could adjust the time a song is played before it's scrobbled. I am subscribed to a lot of mp3 blogs in Peel, and a lot of the time I hit skip after 40 seconds if the song isn't really what I'm in the mood for - if I could adjust the settings to scrobble a song after the first 1:30 it's played I'd have a much more accurate recent playlist on Last.fm. Keep up the awesome work.

Good idea Mike. It's currently only scrobbled if you finish the song but I could make a slider that said 0-100% of the song. I'm putting it into my idea/todo tracker. - H

Awesome! I've been keeping an eye on Peel, riding the fence on whether to buy it or not. I'll definitely pay up when 2.0 comes out. Any kind of a timeline on it?

This spring is the current estimate - May/June.

Looks great! Thanks so much for continuing to improve this excellent app. Peel saves me so many hours per week... I barely know what to do with all the free time!

Any decision yet on pricing or upgrade policy? I've been trying the app out, and was about to buy it, but don't want to end up paying more. (Sorry, I don't want to sound as if I don't value your work, but I'm a student on a very tight budget.)

I've got the same question... if I buy a v1.0 license today, would I have to buy another license in May/June? I suppose it has to be that way...

Mar 31 - 08:03

Hjalti
Hi. The upgrade fee will be very reasonable. Either the difference between Peel 1.0 and 2.0 price or very close to that. So there should not really be a reason to wait to buy a license.

Is version 2 going to support mp3 bogs lthat do not store their songs directly on their site? The blogs that use zshare.com megaupload.com and those type of sites?

Apr 01 - 10:04

Hjalti
Ian, at least some of them and allow developers to create plugins for their favorite sites. It will still be slower and take longer to update such sites but I'll try to address the most popular ones. It's a cat and mouse game though, since those sharing sites are constantly trying to block out scripts/applications from accessing their files directly.

Hi. Looks very promising. I would hugely appreciate if you'd finish it!

H- Very cool. I am seeing what you mean with the cat and mouse. I am developing a web based solution similar to Peel and have just started to think about the problems associated with remote file sharing sites. Looking forward to Peel 2.0
